Kia reveals more 2020 Sorento details

Kia has been slowly unveiling the details of its all-new Sorento over the last month or so.

The latest content dump includes the first details of the engine line-up, as well as some of the new safety kit.

The first and likely most important engine for our market, is the tried and trusted 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel, delivering 147kW and 440Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

There’s also a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, mated to a 44.2kW electric motor and a 1.49kWh battery pack. The result is a combined power output of 170kW and 350Nm of torque. This model is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.

North America will get a new Smartstream hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2.5-litre GDi engine with 206kW and 421Nm of torque. This model will also use the eight-speed dual clutch transmission.

Depending on specification level, the Sorento will be equipped with forward collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, surround vies, blind spot collision avoidance, speed limit assist, adaptive cruise control, highway driving assist,, reverse parking collision avoidance, rear cross traffic assist and a feature that will park the car autonomously.

Pricing and engine line-up have not been confirmed for South Africa yet.
