Kia’s new Sportage unveiled

Kia has finally revealed a few more details on the all-new Sportage, which will arrive in SA in the first quarter of 2016.

The new Sportage is 40mm longer, while its wheelbase has grown by 30mm. The boot capacity has also grown to 503 litres, which means it’s definitely going to be a practical offering.

A host of new engines will power the vehicle, though it’s not yet clear which of them will be made available in SA.

The range kicks off with a 1,6-litre GDI, followed by a high-output turbocharged version of the same engine. On the diesel front there’s a 1,7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and an upgraded version of the well-known 2,0-litre turbodiesel. Kia will be offering a six-speed manual, automatic and a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Thanks to the extended wheelbase, the interior is much more spacious than before. The list of standard specification is fairly extensive, but we’ll have to wait and see how much of this tech will eventually be offered on SA models.

The new Sportage will officially be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.
