Toyota South Africa will offer the Prado with the 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel, as found in the Hilux.
According to our sister publication, Car Magazine, this was confirmed at this week’s Lexus RC F launch.
In case you need a reminder, the 2.8-litre engine (in the Hilux) develops 130kW and 450Nm of torque when mated to a six-speed automatic. That’s a healthy 10kW and 50Nm jump from the current engine, not to mention an all-new gearbox that features six instead of five gears.
As an added bonus, here’s Car’s latest test of the Prado.
