Lotus Esprit Submarine For Sale

by Leisure Wheels

22 October 2014

The iconic Lotus Esprit S1 submarine car from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me is up for sale.

The car was posted on eBay on the United States for $1 million. Six cars were originally created for the film, but apparently only three are left today.

This particular one was restored recently by Rick Dale from the American Restoration show on The History Channel, which is on DStv.

What makes the asking price a bit, steep, though, is that you can’t take the Esprit onto public roads, since it isn’t road legal. Nor is it an actual submarine, although its rear wheels do retract, as seen in the movie. Still, a hardcore Bond fan might still be willing to fork over a $1 million for it. After all, Tesla CEO Elon Musk paid $866 000 for one a while back.
