Meet Nissan’s Desert Runner V8 turbocharged Navara

For years now Nissan fans have been calling for the Navara to be blessed with a bigger engine.

Most people would have been fine with a V6 diesel, but Nissan in the USA has gone and overdone it.

It chose the SEMA show to debut the Frontier Desert Runner, which is a 5.6-litre V8-powered monster. To make it even more engaging, it’s equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.

As if that’s not enough, MA Motorsport, who helped Nissan build this thing, also included a Garret turbocharger, custom intercooler, upgraded camshafts, pistons and valves. The result is around 450kW and 950Nm of torque.

This was obviously too much for the standard car to handle, so the makeover also includes a custom long-travel suspension kit. Oddly, this model isn’t equipped with an independent rear suspension, but rather leaf springs.

The wheels are Fifteen 52 TurboMac HD alloys, wrapped in 37-inch BF Goodrich Baja tyres.

The interior was stripped down completely, with Sparco being responsible for the seats and steering wheel.
