Mercedes-Benz will present the new Merc bakkie concept in Stockholm on Tuesday, 25 October 2016. In the meantime, the German automaker has given us us a sneak peek of the pre-production study through a video teaser.
Merc will join forces with Nissan and develop their own model based off the European market NP300 Navara. The new class could be dubbed the ‘GLT’ or ‘X-Class’ and seems to have an aggressive fascia reminiscent of the brand’s sporty AMG models, a stylish set of wheels and what looks to be a rear diffuser. Looking at the side profile stitched together from screenshots, it is very similar to that of the NP300 Navara.
Mercedes have said that the interior will be similar to the brand’s passenger cars. There is also the possiblilty of extra powertrains over and above those offered by Nissan.
The bakkie will be built in factories owned by Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance in Spanish and Argentinian, and will be sold in Europe, Australia, South Africa and Latin American from next year.
