There has been speculation about the production of a Mercedes-Benz range topping SUV dubbed the Maybach and now it has been confirmed.
At the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, head of Mercedes-Benz, Dieter Zetsche, told AutoExpress, ” I’d like to say you will be seeing it, but I’ll leave it at that”.
Although no specifics were given the crème de la crème of the Mercedes SUV range is expected to compete with the ultra-luxurious Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
Jens Thiemer, the Mercedes VP for Marketing hinted that the Maybach may feature an electrified version, over and above the regular internal combustion engines.
“We will, I call it, begin ‘EQ-ing’ our cars. We will also see electric cars from Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach, so that’s what we are thinking. Electrification will, of course, hit every car, and we have to be prepared. There will come a point in time where the complete portfolio will become electrified – whether it’s plug-in hybrid or pure electric engines“, Thiemer said.
No date has been given for when the Mercedes-Maybach SUV is expected to go into production.
