Kia has registered the trademark name ‘Stonic’ for its latest compact crossover. The nomenclature is derived from the combination of the words ‘Speed ‘and ‘Tonic’.
Not much is known about the upcoming B-segment crossover, except that the production vehicle will not look quite as aggressive as this. The roofline will be sloping and it will carry a “uniquely designed” roof rack. Kia mentions that the Stonic form will take its design cues from the larger KIA SUVs, the Sportage and Sorento.
The South Korean manufacturer also states that the Kia Stonic will have both exterior and interior ‘customisable options offered like never before on a Kia.’
The Stonic is scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2017 and will probably be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
As for Hyundai’s new Kona, it will be officially revealed next Tuesday.
