New radar gun able to detect driving while texting

by Leisure Wheels

22 September 2014

It seems as if using your phone while driving will soon be a thing of the past.

A company called ComSonics, based in the US, has designed a new radar gun that detects the radio waves from a phone that is being used as a person is driving along.

It basically works the same as a speed detecting radar. The officer simply points it in the direction of a car and it tells him/her if a driver is using his/her phone, or not.

You might wonder if you’ll get nabbed while using Bluetooth, but ComSonics says that the radar gun will be able to tell the difference, as Bluetooth uses a different radio wave than an unconnected phone.

According to its makers, the device is very close to production ready.

Let’s hope the SA government places a large order for these radar guns, because we can certainly use them over here.
