New Touareg expected

The new styling is closely based on the VW family look, like the Golf and new Polo. The new Touareg will feature an eight-speed transmission as well as, on the majority of models, Start/Stop technology, touchscreen satellite navigation and leather upholstery.

Three engines will be available from launch, starting with a 3,0-litre diesel that produces up to 180 kW and 550 Nm of torque. A 4,2-lite V8 turbodiesel will also be available, producing 250 kW and 800 Nm of torque.

The third option is a 3,3-litre supercharged V6 petrol/electric hybrid. It produces 283 kW and 580 Nm of torque.

A system called 4XMOTION will be available. It features low-range gearing, centre and rear differentials that can each be fully locked for off-road applications and five-stage control for the four-wheel-drive system.

The Touareg will go on sale in Europe in about August and will no doubt be here soon after that.
