From an originally cute and curvaceous look to a neither here nor there style, the Rav4 has now adopted a more angular design with sharper lines. The reshaped ‘nose’ and upper front grille is a key update on the latest model.
There is also a new front bumper and revised mud flaps (on the GX models) along with LED-equipped headlamps. At the back of the compact SUV the rear lights have been redesigned and the lower tailgate has been refurbished.
Inside there is a 4.2-inch colour multi-information display in the instrument panel displaying energy usage, speed and other vehicle information, while the VX models also have a central 7-inch Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system.
The package on the VX includes Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls; a rear-view camera; vehicle information, including trip data, climate control profile; and management of settings for door locking and lighting.
It also enables simple connection of iPods and MP3 players via USB or Bluetooth. Audio system options, such as the radio and CD player, can also be controlled using the screen.
New safety features include an auto door lock system that allows doors to lock when the vehicle reaches a certain speed. There is a Trailer Sway Control and an alarm system for the GX models and front sonar (VX models) with warning buzzer and back monitor (new on the GX models) .
