Nissan will be introducing its new Smart Rearview Mirror technology at the New York Motor Show later this week.
This technology allows the driver to switch between the LCD display to a screen integrated within the traditional rearview mirror. A switch on the mirror allows the driver to toggle between the traditional mirror and the LCD monitor.
The LCD screen feeds a live video feed from a high-resolution camera fixed to the rear of the vehicle. The camera is placed in a prime position, so it gives the driver a much wider view than a traditional rearview mirror.
This technology will be used in Nissan’s 2014 Le Mans racecars, but will eventually find its way to production vehicles.
Attached below is a video showcasing the Smart Rearview Mirror in action.
