No bakkie for BMW

Since the introduction of the X-Class, we’ve wondered whether other premium manufacturers will follow with similar models.

We asked the same question on a recent international BMW launch and the answer wasn’t quite clear.

It seems BMW has now answered that question for good via its development chief and board member, Klaus Frohlich. He ruled out any chances of an X-Class rival, stating that the market for such a thing is too small, even though Australia also seems interested in the idea of a Beemer bakkie.

Due to BMW and Toyota’s recent partnership on the Supra/Z4, the internet started speculating on a juiced-up Hilux wearing a BMW badge,, but Frolich also stated the BMW would never be a part of a badge engineering job like that.
