On (new) PATROL

by Leisure Wheels

12 April 2010

Size matters, especially if you are a Middle Eastern oil sheik.

In a culture where money is of little consequence, it is ultimate luxury and speed, a certain level of exclusivity, and the ability to stand out from a crowd of businessmen who each own their own proverbial bank, which could sway a sale.

And this seems to be what the all-new Nissan Patrol is about. Potential customers apparently told Nissan that the current model is just too, well ? insignificant. They also said more comfort and luxury was required, along with the ability to make a real impression.

The new Patrol certainly seems up to the task of making an impression. And a big one too. It has grown markedly in size over the current model, which is already rather large. The latest version, with its distinctively Nissan front-end and more modern lines, is 90mm longer overall, the wheelbase has been stretched by 105mm, it is 55mm wider, and it weighs almost 300kg more than the model it is due to replace.
