Porsche teamed up with Air France for a rather impressive publicity stunt. The German automaker brought its latest Cayenne SUV to Charles de Gaulle airport outside Paris and towed an Airbus A380 for 48 metres.
First Porsche set its Cayenne Diesel S with a 4.1-litre V8 engine, which churns out 287kW of power and 850 Nm of torque, to the task of dragging the world’s largest passenger plane – the 285-ton Airbus A380. It did so for for 48m, setting a new world record in the process.
After completing the task that it set out to accomplish, Porsche then redid the feat using the petrol turbocharged Cayenne Turbo S, whose 4.8-liter V8 delivers much more power at 418kW but a bit less torque at 800Nm.
Both vehicles were entirely stock standard, with just a special attachment for the standard towing bar.
When all was said and done, the vehicles were then driven back to London (from where they had come) to show that they were undamaged.
