It turns out that Mercedes-Benz might not be the only upmarket German manufacturer looking to release a vehicle that could take on BMW’s X6. Porsche might also be throwing its hat into the ring.
Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled its X6-like Concept Coupe SUV, and while it is officially only a concept vehicle at the moment, its eventual release seems a virtual certainty. Recent reports suggest, though, that the Concept Coupe SUV isn’t the only competitor that the BMW X6 will need to worry about.
Porsche seems to be interested in creating a more coupe-like version of the Cayenne. “We have been considering launching a more sporting derivative of the Cayenne for some time now. The problem has been the production capacity at our Leipzig factory and the strong sales of the regular Cayenne,” a senior Porsche official told Autocar magazine.
When could we reasonably expect to see a Cayenne Coupe? The third generation of the Cayenne will be launched in 2017, so that would seem like to obvious time to add a coupe to the range. For now, we’ll have to wait until Porsche offers an official statement.
