The Range Rover Sport took top honours in the SUV class at the 2014 Women’s World Car of the Year competition.
Twenty judges, from 15 countries – including South Africa – voted for a number of cars in six categories: Family Car, Sports Car, Luxury Car, SUV, Budget Car, and Green Car. Along with the usual judging criteria, which allowed for consideration of practical and design facets of the vehicles, the voting procedure also considered each vehicle’s ‘wow’ factor, sex appeal, and value-for-money – aspects the judges deemed important to female car buyers.
This award is yet another in the trophy cabinet of the new Range Rover Sport, which went on sale in 2013. To date, it has garnered 54 accolades around the world. Media have praised Land Rover’s use of lightweight technologies, which shaved 360kg from the vehicle’s kerb weight. This has endowed it with more car-like handling on the road, while Land Rover’s award-winning Terrain Response system ensures it is ever the off-road vehicle that customers have come to expect.
