Renault South Africa has just introduced a new special edition Kwid Xtreme to its limited range of entry level ‘SUV inspired-hatches.’ The French manufacturer has sold over 6 000 units of the A-segment vehicle since it debuted locally in late 2016, securing an 11.5% market share.
The newcomer gets an an exterior styling pack with chrome accents for the front grille, fog lamp surrounds, front bumper and a tailgate strip.
Sporty black roofrails have been fitted and the Xtreme gets a set of black plastic mud flaps. The standard 13-inch rims and tyres have been replaced with 14-inch rims and rubber, while the ground clearance remains at 180mm.
As standard features on the Dynamic model, you’ll find aircon, electric front windows and onboard navigation via the seven-inch touchscreen. These are now complemented on the Xtreme model, by rear parking distance control and the ‘Lock-On Drive’ system that automatically locks the doors at 20km/h.
All models are powered by the compact 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that has been optimised to pushes out 50kW at 5 500 rpm and maximum torque of 91Nm at 4 250 rpm.
Safety features are limited to seat belts and a driver airbag ( so no airbag for the front passenger and no ABS).
We tested the Kwid Dynamic model earlier this year, you’ll find our opinion here.
