Spirit of Africa Trophy thrills competitors

Now in its closing rounds, the heat is on for the last remaining groups in this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Spirit of Africa Trophy semi-finals.

Currently top scores stand at:

1: 1 400 – Group 6
This group had three finalists from 2008, one of which was the overall winner.

2: 1 390 – Group 6
An extremely competitive group – the results reflects the close race.

3: 1 290 – Group 14
This group were regular visitors, mainly farmers from the Bultfontein area who managed to secure 3 top 10 spots in the overall standings.

The benchmark has been set and the last remaining groups need to top 1 030 points to get in to the top sixteen who will compete in the finals, which will run from 21 August to 29 August in Bilene, a beautiful coastal town in Mozambique.

“The standard of competition is extremely high this year with competitors showing that their 4×4 skills and expertise reigns supreme,” says Sarel van der Merwe, event owner and head judge.

“Despite the cold weather, nothing dampens the spirit of a true 4×4 enthusiast, and we are delighted that the Mitsubishi Tritons have proven their mettle in these tough conditions and have not let any of the participants down,” adds Supervan.
