Tesla is set to unveil its all-new compact SUV later this year, which is thought to be called Model Y.
The all-new pure-electric SUV will rival cars like the Audi Q5. Autocar reports that the crossover is expected to go on sale late 2019 or early 2020 and is expected to come with Model X ‘falcon wing’ doors and Tesla’s semi-autonomous cruise control.
The compact crossover could turn out to be Tesla’s best seller as that is what everyone is buying these days. Tesla’s will be equipped with as many as eight cameras, giving a 360deg view of the surroundings, as well as 12 ultrasonic sensors and a new forward-facing radar that will work in the worst conditions.
Elon Musk has said the new electrical architecture that will be incorporated into this car has a brain that is as much as “40 times” more powerful than on previous Teslas, calling it a “supercomputer inside the car”.
