The refreshed second-generation Nissan Qashqai has launched in South Africa with a number enhancements and some nifty features.
The exterior of the popular SUV comes with a new front bumper and the latest incarnation of Nissan’s “V-motion” grille. The bonnet and rear bumper have also been redesigned, the lights updated and 17-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels have been introduced.
The new Qashqai 4 394mm in length, 17mm longer than before, while the width (1 806mm) and height (1 595mm) remain unchanged.
There are eight variants now, five powered by the 1.2-litre turbopetrol engine and three by a 1.5-litre turbodiesel mill. The 1.2-litre delivers 85 kW and 190 Nm when mated with the six-speed manual transmission and 85 kW and 165 Nm with CVT. The 1.5dCI delivers 81 kW and 260Nm.
The interior features a new D-shaped steering wheel, the door handles and air vents are finished in ‘higher-quality materials’ and the electric windows can now be operated via the key fob.
Safety features as part of the Nissam Intelligent Mobility (NIM) suite include: Intelligent blind spot warning, emergency braking, forward collision warning and an ‘around view monitor’ that makes use of five cameras positioned around the vehicle to provides a 360-degree view of your surroundings.
Nissan says that the noise, vibration and harshness levels (NVH) have improved with the addition of more sound insulation material, sealing and the thicker rear door glass. It also claims that there is less engine noise thanks to powertrain calibration improvements.

The Qashqai comes with 24-hour roadside assistance and has a 6-year/150 000km warranty, and a comprehensive 3-year/90 000km service plan.
