The Insurance Institute of Highway safety in the US has conducted a rather interesting shoot-out, pitting rear parking sensors versus the reverse camera.
The reverse camera came out on tops, but it’s a bittersweet victory.
To find out which was best, the IIHS asked 111 people to reverse using only the parking sensors and then only the reverse camera. A life-size cutout of a toddler was placed behind the test vehicle.
As stated, the camera came out tops, but only 44% of people managed not to hit the dummy. One out of 16 people managed to avoid the dummy while using the sensors.
It seems the best method is still looking over your shoulder.
