Our sister publication, Car, recently discovered the pricing of the new Fortuner Epic and Epic Black on Toyota’s local website.
From what we gather from the website, the Epic and Epic Black models serve as flagships in the Fortuner range. The 2.7-litre petrol model and 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel model soldier on as before.
The 2.8-litre models are only available in Epic and Epic Black guise, much like the Hilux is currently only available in Legend 50 specification. An interesting omission is the 4.0-litre V6 model, which is no longer mentioned on the website.
The 4×2 2.8 GD-6 Epic Automatic costs R660 000, while the Epic Black model with the same setup costs R670 100. The 4×4 Epic retails for R729 000 and the flagship Epic Black 4×4 automatic costs R739 100.
Engine power is the same as before – 130kW and 450Nm of torque. All Epic and Epic Black models are equipped with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The question is, what exactly do you get with the Epic and Epic Black packages?
Exterior wise, you get a nudge bar with Epic branding and Epic branding at the rear. You also get scuff plates and a tow bar as standard.
The Epic Black also has a two-tone exterior, featuring Glacier White bodywork and a gloss black roof and black roof rails. The side mirrors are also black. The exterior is further enhanced thanks to model-specific 18-inch alloy wheels.
Interior wise these models come with Epic branded floor mats and a powered tailgate.
