It seems we were wrong all along about who built the first crossover coupe.
It wasn’t BMW, but rather a company called Status & Class with a model called the XG.
As you can see, it is indeed an SUV and a proper coupe. It was built between 1996 and 1999, but only between three to five was ever made.
The XG used the underpinnings of the Mercedes G-Class and a 3,2-litre six-cylinder petrol engine.
