Now that the new Defender is out, there’s all sorts of speculation as to what models we can expect in the future.
Land Rover already ruled out a bakkie, but the latest rumours suggest that it might offer an SVR go-faster model. Looking at how successful the Mercedes-G63 AMG is, it would make sense for Land Rover to offer something similar.
The only source we can find pertaining to this rumour comes from Auto Express, which claims a working prototype already exists.
Given that it’s a Land Rover, the most obvious engine choice is the supercharged V8, as found in the Jaguar F-Pace SVR and Velar SVAutobiography, but no. Auto Express claims it will be armed with a BMW V8, as found in the X5M. If that’s true, then its good news, because that particular engine makes even more power than the 5.0-litre.
In case you were wondering, BMW and Land Rover are working together again, but on electric powertrains. Their initial deal did not mention anything but electric mobility, but where there’s smoke…
