  • Mercedes-Benz X-Class adding long-wheelbase model?

    by Gerhard Horn

    8 January 2020

Last year rumours surrounding Mercedes-Benz axing the X-Class made the rounds on the internet.

At the time we phoned Mercedes-Benz for comment and it stated that there was no truth to the rumours and that it would continue building and selling it.

For a while now nothing new has happened on the X-Class front, but now the first images of the long-wheelbase model have surfaced, courtesy of Carscoops.

The elongated X-Class basically features a longer load-bin. That may not make much sense, but the additional size might just make it more appealing to a market used to bigger bakkies, like America.

Other than that, we can’t tell much from the images. The badges are hidden, so it’s not clear whether it will be powered by the four-cylinder Nissan engine, the six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine, or perhaps both.

In any case, the fact that Mercedes-Benz is even investing the money to develop and test this bakkie is proof that there’s still life left in the X-Class.

It’s not clear when and where this model will be unveiled, but we reckon it should be fairly soon.
