Rainer Zietlow has set another world record in long distance driving in a Volkswagen Touareg.
This time round Zietlow and his team wanted to set a record for the fastest time travelled between the northernmost point in Europe to the southernmost point in Africa. They wanted to complete the 17 000km through 18 countries in under ten days.
Unfortunately, the team was involved in an accident in Tanzania, which set them back a few days. After the VW Touareg was fixed, the team set off in the hopes of bettering the previous 1984 record of 28 days.
They were successful in their attempt and completed the perilous journey in 21 days, 16 hours and 36 seconds. When discounting the accident repair time, the team completed the journey in eight days, 10 hours and 26 minutes.
