Super camper-mom
Our new feautre – family Camping – debuts in the brand new May issue of Leisure Wheels that has just hit the shelves. Our super-mom Suyin will be dispensing advice from hard-earned experience on how to travel with little ones – and still come back relaxed! The first of six features helps you pack more effectively for your trip.
So who is she?
Suyin’s done her fair share of travelling. Husband James, whom she’s been married to for three years, is quite the adventurer, and takes his lovely wife and kids wherever he goes. Together the family camps roughly five times a year – in and around South Africa (especially Mpumalanga, Mozambique and even Lesotho.
Meet the family
James, a building contractor by trade, would be happy to sleep in his Landy, but with two very busy kids, Suyin’s got to be on her game all the time. Their eldest, James Jnr (aka Jamesie) is two years old and quite the busy body. Summer, the newest addition to the family, is only nine months old (and yes, she’s teething!) Keeping these two, as well as hubby (and herself!) happy on the Pretorius family adventures, is quite the challenge.
Keeping it healthy
Another challenge is the fact that Suyin strives to instil a healthy and active lifestyle in her family – that means eating well, even if all you have is some wood and a grill! A “braaivleis and brandewyn” camper diet may be proudly South African, but it’s not the only meal on the menu!
Hard-earned advice
From her experience, Suyin aims to help other moms see that travelling and camping with young children is in fact possible, and can be great fun. She advises on how to pack smart, how to keep kids happy campers even when it rains, what vaccinations are safe for the little ones and how to shop for your trip. In each edition, Suyin will also share a simple camping recipe and some cooking tips to keep the family fed, happy and healthy no matter where you are.
