The Renault Kadjar XP Limited Edition is an entry-level SUV that has got us really excited.
Last year we drove the new Renault Kadjar 1.6 dCi 4×4 and 1.2-litre turbo petrol (both with the higher specced Dynamic trim) as well as the 1.5-litre dCi and the 1.2-litre EDC (also with the Dynamic trim). The Kadjar XP Limited Edition however, is based on the entry level Expression 1.2-litre turbo petrol derivative, with six-speed manual transmission. In fact it is identical, except for the R40 000 worth of add-ons that are thrown in for the exact same price of R364 900 as the regular entry level model.
We drove the Kadjar XP through the tarred roads of Gauteng, near the Cradle of Humankind. The periphery of the byways were lined with long grass and summer greenery, as we passed game farms and small holdings, enjoying the comfortable ride in the Kadjar – thanks to the French automaker’s compliant suspension. The 96kW 1.2-litre engine that has 205Nm of torque preformed admirably considering its size. Of course it’s not a torquey beast and we had to gear down once when overtaking, but with two adults in the car there was no obvious hindrance in the car’s ability.
The interior finishes are best summed up as comfortable. Pleasant, neat and well designed without any pretense of being a sumptuous, luxury SUV. This entry level model is fitted with a radio/CD player with Bluetooth as standard. It also has USB port, electronic handbrake that is nice and compact and also cruise control.
The real draw card for anyone with an active lifestyle, which is exactly the market that the Renault Kadjar is pitched at, is accessory pack that comes with the Kadjar XP Limited Edition. This comprises 17-inch alloys (instead of the standard 16-inch), cornering fog lights, easily detachable roof racks, side steps and a detachable swan neck tow bar.
Unless you have no intention of ever using a tow bar or roof racks, it would almost be crazy not to grab this offer, with all this additional equipment gratis if you are looking to buy into the Renault Kadjar entry-level range. This a sporty–looking crossover, which comes with a decent 200mm of ground clearance is packaged attractively in the Kadjar XP limited Edition.
