The launch of the all-electric Tesla Model X SUV in China co-incides with the Chinese New Year and so to celebrate this, the Californian automaker has released the special Signature Red limited edition model.
The top of the range P90D in Signature Red comes with red brake calipers, an active rear spoiler, air suspension, 20-inch wheels, Autopilot and black Nappa leather and alcantara inside, as well as a speed upgrade. It can go from 0-100kph in 3.4 seconds while the standard edition 90D takes 5 seconds.
Red symbolize celebration in China and while the Signature Red model is exclusive to that country, the paint scheme is available worldwide.
The all-wheel drive Model X has a range between 354 and 413 kilometres, depending on the battery pack size and can reach a top speed of 250 kph. The floor-mounted battery, gives this SUV a low center of gravity and the vehicle’s clearance can be raised if necessary using one of four suspension settings.
The SUV also has falcon-wing doors, and a medical-grade HEPA filter system in the car that could be very appealing to the Chinese market, as the country struggles with chronic air pollution.
The Model X Signature Red Limited Edition costs 1.48 million yuan (about R3.6-million) compared to the entry-level 90D starting at 1.17 million yuan (R2.8-million).
