Camp site review – Fleckvieh Guestfarm

To me there is nothing better than camping, but when a camp site is 15km from my home, I get really excited about going to camp there.

The Fleckvieh Guest Farm is located on a working farm, near the Tredouw pass at the foot of the Langeberge. Chantell van Staden will take your booking and is very helpful and will ensure that your visit to Fleckvieh is an unforgettable experience.

I was in the mood to go and camp for one night during the week and the Fleckvieh guest farm was an easy choice. The last 100m to the camp is via a gravel road and I would recommend that you go an camp there with a off-road trailer, ofrroad-caravan or tent.

At the Fleckvieh guest farm you camp alongside a beautiful dam on green grass terraces and each spot has a power point. Make sure to bring your kayak along as the dam is ideal for paddling. In summer months campers can cool off in the dam. There is also a communal pool for those that prefer to regulate their temperature in that manner.

As the sun was setting I quickly pitched my roof top tent and got comfortable on a camping chair. With a nice cup of coffee in my hand I could appreciate the end of another day. There were cows grazing on the opposite side of the dam which made for a peaceful setting.

I lit a fire with some kameeldoring and enjoyed the evening sounds. There are permanent braai facilities but I prefered using my own portable braai. Campers can buy firewood by the bag as well as milk and eggs from the farm.

As it was winter, I got an early night in my tent and a decent nights rest. I awoke early the next morning to the sound of cows. I made my self a nice cup of coffee and went to watch the sunrise from the jetty. Fleckvieh guestfarm is ceratinly the right place for any camper that seeks peacefulness in nature.

The bathrooms are rustic, but offer a unique experience. If you want to use the facilities, you place a rope attached to an occupied sign across the footpath. There are 2 bathrooms, each with a shower, toilet and washbasin. The one bathroom features an open air design that will be great during the summer months.

Apart from the camp sites, Fleckvieh guest farm features a number of self catering options. Accomodation is offered in a thatchroof chalet, 2 wooden huts dubbed Takbok and Bosbok or a bigger hut named Eland. Two bedroom rooms are named Koetjie and Kalfie which are ideal for groups or families if both units are booked simultaneously. The main farm house offers two bedrooms with private entrances.

Guests often use the farm as a base from which to explore places like Witsand and the surrounding wine routes but also as a base from which to explore Cape Town, George and Oudtshoorn.

Thie farm offers some nice activities like horse riding and night drives. Pre-booking is required. You are also welcome to go hiking or mountain biking on the farm. The very well known Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve is on the doorstep and certainly worth a visit.
