April 2019 Issue

You’ve heard of humblebrags, right? You know… when you ever-so-humbly admit an achievement that you’re particularly proud of, often on Facebook. Well at Leisure Wheels we don’t do humblebrags… we do either modesty or brag-brags. Today it’s the turn of the latter. We drove an Isuzu truck up to Beaufort West to deliver a tanker of water (that we filled up in Cape Town) to relieve the locals from the crippling drought they’ve been experiencing. That felt good, we’re not ashamed to say.

Another thing we’re proud of is our South African team winning this year’s Dakar Rally. Wouldn’t you love to hear from the winning driver, Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah? You would? Well you’re in luck! He’s this month’s Adventure Interviewee.

We have an awesome test to show you, too. We take the Volkswagen Amarok V6 and compare it to the Mercedes-Benz X-Class X350d. But we don’t do it ourselves, we get motorsport legend Hannes Grobler to do it for us. Find out what he had to say.

There’s a double helping of Kingsley Holgate this month, not only does the famed explorer appear in his usual column slot, we also feature an eight-pager on his Cape to Kathmandu trip

Our Gear sections this month focus on electric motorbikes and drones that can transport people while Hooikraal tented camp is our campsite of the month. You can also check out what we’ve done to out Ford Everest project vehicle and read about the wild, wild west. No, not that West, our west… Namaqualand.
