March 2020 Issue

Let’s not beat about the bush; this issue was about one thing and one thing only: the Bakkie of the Year. Somehow, our team of writers managed to cram it all into one issue when in truth, we could have written a lot more. Talk about which bakkie really is best has been around as long as there have been, well, two bakkies. We aimed to get rid of the meaningless criterion people have used in the past (0–100km/h speed just doesn’t mean that much) and instead measure the bakkies based on the important stuff – like what it can tow, how much it’ll cost to service and so on. The result is something we’re proud to put the Leisure Wheels stamp on. And the winner is… not so fast, Sunshine. You’ll have to pick up the mag to find out.

While we could have filled the mag with Bakkie of the Year, we didn’t so you get the privilege of reading about an Isuzu MU-X circling Lesotho, a couple of Test vehicles (the Volvo XC40 and Isuzu D-Max X-Rider Black) and a Fortuner Snake Catcher.

Lovers of motorsport will enjoy our feature on the Dakar Rally where we look back at what went right and what went wrong for the South Africans in the toughest race on Earth.

Kingsley and Voetspore remain, as does our Adventurer Interview which this month features… well, wait and see. As usual, we’ve got Campsite Review, Photo Focus, Gear and Tech.
