September 2019 Issue

Everyone loves a world record, right? Right. So as we thought of all the world records out there, we pondered how many of them are off-road. We certainly don’t know of any. Well, we decided to change all that and we set about creating a benchmark for others to follow: how many kilometres could we cover in a Land Rover Discovery in 24 hours.

There’s a bit of a Discovery theme running through the mag this month, truth be told, what with it being the 30-year anniversary of the iconic vehicle. Kingsley Holgate writes about his travels with the brand while our Buying Used section looks at Discoverys through the years.

We’ve got an exciting bunch of features this month, first up is a look at the Mpumalanga Panorama Route where stunning views and breathtaking scenery await. We also explore Botswana in a Ford Everest and take a trip back through the ages as we try out the Garden Route unplugged going off-road as much as possible to explore historic ox wagon trails.

Our cover feature sees us put the Jaguar F-Pace and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio through their paces. But these aren’t our only tests, we also dissect the Ford Ranger Raptor and the Renault Koleos.

All of our usuals are present: Gear, Photo Focus, Campsite review and Retro. In Gear we look at two things guaranteed to take your money and laugh in your face: Lego sets and camera accessories. They don’t come cheap. Our campsite this month is Kardoesie while our retro vehicle is the AMC Eagle, the first to cross over.

Oh, and we welcome Suzie to our long-term fleet.
